The Soaper & Photographer
Keith Facchino
For most of my career, I’ve photographed road and trail running, mountain biking, triathlons, and even a few Nordic and snowshoeing events since 1999. To explore my photography, visit capturethemoment.net.
I'm an avid hiker, and the great outdoors is an essential part of who I am. The beauty of the mountains and trails continually recharges my soul, and I’m constantly inspired by the natural world around me. Since I started making soap, I've begun to see plants in a new light, wondering if I can incorporate them into my creations. Hiking fuels my creativity in so many ways, including in the soap-making process. Below, you’ll find a slideshow of some of my favorite hiking images. I’ve captured hundreds, so check back as it periodically changes.
Making soap has always been something I’ve wanted to learn, but with my busy photography career, it was easier to buy it off the shelf than take the time to create my own. Like many people, I found that conventional soap dried out my skin, making it necessary to use lotion. However, when I switched to natural soap, I noticed an immediate improvement. My skin felt healthier, and I stopped using lotion, except during the driest months.
In August 2020, with the pandemic slowing everything down and leaving me with no work, I began researching soap-making. It took me a few months to decide if I should invest in supplies, but by the time I made my first batch in March 2021 (which became my Orange Blast soap), I was hooked. I started experimenting with different recipes, scents, and ingredients like clays and herbs. As friends and family began to ask if I was going to turn this into a business, I realized that I truly enjoyed the creative process of soap-making. After some reflection and more research, I decided to give it a go.
After testing different names, I landed on Trekker Soap Company. When people ask, "Why 'Trekker'?" I say, "We’re all trekking somewhere. Whether by foot, bike, or car, and we all need to clean up afterwards." Hence, the tagline: We’ll clean you up — wherever you go!
Since that first batch, I’ve been continually experimenting with new recipes, scents, and natural ingredients. I’m committed to using only pure, sustainable ingredients that aren't listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species or contribute to habitat destruction. Which is why you’ll never find palm oil in any Trekker Soap products.
I hope you enjoy Trekker Soap as much as I enjoy creating it.
Peace,
Keith
